February 10th - Marooned - Better than Life

Marooned started in 1995 at the Las Vegas "Age of Chivalry Faire". Founded by faire veteran Bob Brinkman and Keenan Mills, by the second day of performance Marooned had grown to an a capella quartet combining over 20 years of faire experience and a variety of musical styles. Since that time Marooned has performed at faires throughout California, including the Ojai Festival and the Santa Barbara Renaissance Faire. Of course, the group is always looking for new venues for performance, and has even been approached to work on a film soundtrack. Marooned is considering a second CD, a 10 year cast & crew retrospective, but in the meantime their latest CD appearance is on the Hurricane Relief CD, Circle. Experience is the prime force of any group. Marooned combines 50 years of faire experience with a wide variety of backgrounds represented. Marooned takes Sea Shanties and Irish drinking music and adds a few original numbers to put on a lively and energetic show. From silly, to the bawdy ... and often back again.

    February 8th - Blaggards - Standards

"STANDARDS is aptly named yet downplays their wonderfully exuberant, irreverent approach to well-known tunes," says Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle. "Thoroughly irresistible, the Houston quartet joins the ranks of kilt-wearing, ass-kicking Irish rockers willing to cross genres to get their point across. Ten tunes leave the listener dying for more, like a pint of Guinness that's been shorted with too much foam." John Bowles of Paddy Rock Radio says "Patrick Devlin's growling vocals and grinding guitar, Brian Vogel's crashing and smashing on the drums, Chad Smalley's great vocal harmony and bass work, and some of the best damn violin playing I've heard on an independent release from Turi Hoiseth, just compliment each other tremendously."

December 1st- The Bounding Main's Premier Album - The Maiden Voyage (Pirate)

The sound of Bounding Main draws in listeners. While their repertoire is strictly sea shanties or nautical ballads, their arrangements are captivating. What these six singers have done is to take traditional sea shanties and have put a contemporary spin on most of them. Today's listener doesn't have the patience to sit though ten minutes of repetitive verses that accurately reflect the original purpose of these songs: to ensure that gangs of men working together to pull ropes, pump bilges or raise the anchor all kept in step with one another. They manage to preserve the spirit of the genre while making the songs digestible to the modern ear. People who come to their shows know the energy and theatrical spin they put on their pieces, and one reviewer of "Maiden Voyage" replied immediately, saying: "I've played it a couple of times already in the car. It's listenable, unique, and fun."
